MRID-McCollom Scholarship Application

Flo McCollom was the first MRID President in 1975. As a way to remember our roots, we have named this scholarship in honor of her and the work of the first MRID board.

Scholarship monies are to help defray the cost of attendance/testing for events sponsored by: RID, RID Region IV, MRID and applicable professional development endeavors. Funds will be available at the discretion of the Board of Directors and as the budget allows.

The MRID board would like to take this moment to announce a one-time scholarship award of up to $1,000. Applications are due by April 1, 2017. Scholarship award will be announced no later than April 15, 2017. This is a competitive scholarship and requires the applicants to obtain a letter of recommendation as well as write a compelling essay outlining their stance for acquiring the funds.

At present, many workshops, institutions, and national trainings are accepting registrations and applications. This is a great opportunity to begin thinking about furthering your education, training and skills development, during the upcoming months. Most notably, the National Association for Interpreters in Education (NAIE) announced their summer conference, June 22-25. In conjunction with the NAIE conference, TASK 12 is offering its TIPS program initial meeting June 21. Both endeavors offer excellent opportunities for skills and knowledge enhancement. Post-secondary opportunities for the 2017-2018 school year also provide an excellent choice for obtaining professional credentials.

The Board hopes this news finds you as excited as us. Fundraising chair, Kyle Pettis and others have worked tirelessly to accumulate and secure the funds for this sizable scholarship opportunity.  Generous donations from MRID supporters have allowed the board to feel secure that we can offer this sizable award. Please see the attached application for complete details.  Contact the scholarship committee with any questions.
